The Miami Dolphins won the big game on Sunday and Tua Tagovailoa got some props for his play. Tua has been nominated for the FedEx Air Player of the Week.
Tua’s amazing performance on Sunday should win this week’s award. Surprisingly, Lamar Jackson was not nominated for the same award in consideration of other awards. You can not.
Jackson was nominated for FedEx Ground Player of the Week. He rushed nine times for 119 yards and a touchdown. The score and his 79 yards came in one play.
Tua set the league on fire on Sunday. He was 36/50 for 469 yards and 6 touchdowns. No other candidate comes close to what Tua did.
In the Lions’ win over the Washington Commanders, Jared Goff went 20/34 for 256 yards and four touchdowns.
In New York, Joe Flacco was nominated for his game against the Browns. Flacco threw for 307 yards and 4 touchdowns on 26 of 44 passes.
Both Goff and Flacco had good matches, but it would have been shocking, albeit typical, if Tua wasn’t the runaway winner this week.
All three QBs have led their teams to wins and all three have been duly recognized. Tua had his best day as a QB in the NFL, and his numbers were in line with some of the elite QBs in his NFL history.
His six touchdowns were one short of the league-best one-game mark of seven. His eight players, including Nick Foles, Drew Brees and Payton Manning, threw his seven TDs in one game. Tua’s six associate him with names like Dan Marino, Bob Griese, Patrick Mahomes, and Aaron Rodgers.
